Stadtradeln (City cycling) 2024: Cheers to our athletes!

From 17 June to 7 July 2024, the cycle paths in and around Munich were bursting at the seams. A clear case in point: 1060 teams competed for the highest number of kilometres cycled in the annual “Stadtradeln” (City cycling) event.

METRONOMIA took part with 14 active participants, and we think the results are quite impressive:

Our team covered a total of 4,749 km with 399 rides, which equates to an average of 339 kilometres cycled per participant! We avoided 788 kg of CO2 and came in 73rd in the competition. Fun fact: With 1150 (!) km cycled, our IT Manager Daniel Schuster made the biggest contribution to our earnings (but I might add this guy also finds it normal to cycle from Munich to the Canary Islands, taking in every mountain he can find along the way, so he's in a league of his own).
Congrats, dear colleagues!

In Munich, a total of 3,330,068 kilometres were cycledI in this year's competition, including over 357,000 km by the top 3 teams: SWM Stadtwerke München (155,419 km), LMU München (104,107 km) and LMU Klinikum München (97,483 km). We congratulate the winning teams (and start training for next year immediately)!

Some background information for "Stadtradeln" newcomers: The competition is organised by the “Klima-Bündnis (Climate Alliance). The aim is to encourage the participants to cycle as many everyday journeys as possible in a climate-friendly way for 21 days. This not only promotes the switch from car to bike, but also saves CO2 and shows local politicians the needs of cyclists for a better cycling infrastructure.
